Long John Silver’s batter

1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, sugar, baking soda, onion powder, and garlic powder. Whisk together until well blended.

2. Slowly pour the cold club soda into the dry ingredients while continuously whisking to create a smooth batter.

3. Allow the batter to sit for a few minutes to slightly thicken.

4. Dip your choice of seafood or chicken into the batter, ensuring each piece is evenly coated.

5. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large skillet to 350°F (175°C).

6. Carefully fry the coated pieces in the hot oil until they are golden brown and crispy, usually about 3-4 minutes per side.

7. Once cooked, remove the fried pieces from the oil and drain them on paper towels to remove excess oil.

8. Serve the crispy and flavorful fried seafood or chicken hot and enjoy the delicious homemade version of Long John Silver’s batter!
